This picture exposes the real immediate effects of the bomb.

Aftermath of the Bomb

Aftermath of the Bomb
Along with the physical effects of the bomb, there were also huge effects from radiation. Immediate effects include intense sickness and death due to the gamma rays and neutrons in the air emitted one minute after the bomb is detonated. Anyone not approximately one thousand twenty five meters away receives a lethal dose of radiation that causes irreparable damage. The long term effects include tumors that may be thyroid cancer, breast cancer, and leukemia. These conditions may not appear until several years after the original exposure to radiation.
